The name of the game is “politics”

This is what happens with you deal with a bunch of politicians: they’ll say or do anything to get to hang onto their power one second more.  By and large, the only thing a politician fears is another politician.  After all, politicians are the only ones likely to grab off a hunk of that power for which all politicians live.  So when Chris Christie called Donald Trump a “13-year-0ld” one week, then later offered to be a lap dog for the Trumpster, that was to be expected.  And nobody was really surprised when, after calling Trump a “cancer on conservatism,” Rick Perry offered to be his running mate.  It’s what politicians do.

Therefore, I’m guessing that I wasn’t the only one not surprised that after House Speaker Paul Ryan (who also happens to be the co-chair of this summer’s Republican Convention) stated that Trump wasn’t a “true” conservative, Trump offered to relieve Ryan of his position.  That, quite naturally, lead Ryan to do a little dance and bow down to Trump after all.  I believe his exact words were, “”He’s the nominee. I’ll do whatever he wants…”

Sadly, this slides over onto real people as well.  Although Donald Trump currently has an unfavorability rating exceeding 70% (and rising), over 80% of Republicans have said they’ll vote for him anyway.  So if you were wondering how we got into the mess we’re in, remember, when you elect a politician you get a politician.

Be seeing you.
