Post racial my ass!

Want to know why society has made virtually no advance against racism?  Because deep down in our brains, we just can’t help it.

The brain’s amygdala, among other things, is responsible for triggering the ‘fight or flight’ instinct.  When you’re startled the amygdala tells you whether you should respond with fear or anger.  In fact, pretty much everything else in your brain goes on vacation except those basic emotions, so if you want to see what someone is truly like at their core, scare them.  All pretenses of civility will disappear and you’ll find yourself with either a very frightened or very angry person on your hands.  Or both.

On top of that, scientists say that the amygdala is associated with territoriality and feelings of entitlement.  Trigger it, and you might wind up like this “lady”:

So there’s your basic human in all its glory.  Aren’t you proud?

Be seeing you.
